A+ Program

Beginning with the class of 2015, students must earn an advanced or proficient on the official Algebra I EOC to be eligible at graduation for the A+ incentive.  If they do not pass BUT meet all other A+ requirements (and are enrolled in the program), they can enroll in community college, take a minimum of 12 hours and pay out of pocket for the 1st semester.  If they achieve a 2.5, they can then apply to begin using A+ the 2nd semester.

Northwest High School has been designated as an A+ School. This means that if a student signs an agreement form and meets the following requirements, upon graduation they then may be eligible to receive a grant that covers two years of tuition at any public community college, or public vocational or technical school in the state of Missouri. A+ Agreement Forms can be picked up in the Guidance Office or the Freshmen Principal's Office.

Qualifications for the student under the guidelines of the grant program are as follows:

  • Attend a designated high school for three consecutive years prior to graduation.
  • Graduate with a cumulative (over 4 years) grade point average of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale.
  • Graduate with a cumulative (over 4 years) 95% attendance record.
  • Maintain a record of good citizenship as defined in the citizenship guidelines, and avoid the unlawful use of drugs, including alchohol.  Good citizenship is defined as:  no more than two In-School Suspensions or Out-of-School Suspensions in four years.
  • Perform 50 hours of unpaid tutoring or mentoring.
  • Students must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form (FAFSA) prior to graduation.
  • Males 18 and over must register for Selective Service.
The A+ grant program is funded by the State of Missouri and is not the responsibility of the Northwest R-1 School District. Northwest High School must maintain it's A+ designation to be eligible for the program.
