Children from families whose current income is at or below those shown are eligible for free or reduced price meals.  Applications are available at the school office.  To apply, fill out a Free and Reduced Price School Meals Family Application and return it to the school.  The information provided on the application is confidential and will be used only for the purpose of determining eligibility.  Applications may be submitted any time during the school year.  A complete application is required as a condition of eligibility.  A complete application includes:

  1. household income from all sources or Food Stamp/Temporary Assistance case number,
  2. names of all household members, and
  3. the signature and last four digits of social security number of adult household member signing the application.

School officials may verify current income at any time during the school year.

Foster children may be eligible regardless of the income of the household with whom they reside.

If a family member becomes unemployed or if family size changes, the family should contact the school to file a new application.  Such changes may make the children of the family eligible for these benefits.

A+ Program

Beginning with the class of 2015, students must earn an advanced or proficient on the official Algebra I EOC to be eligible at graduation for the A+ incentive.  If they do not pass BUT meet all other A+ requirements (and are enrolled in the program), they can enroll in community college, take a minimum of 12 hours and pay out of pocket for the 1st semester.  If they achieve a 2.5, they can then apply to begin using A+ the 2nd semester.

Northwest High School has been designated as an A+ School. This means that if a student signs an agreement form and meets the following requirements, upon graduation they then may be eligible to receive a grant that covers two years of tuition at any public community college, or public vocational or technical school in the state of Missouri. A+ Agreement Forms can be picked up in the Guidance Office or the Freshmen Principal's Office.

Qualifications for the student under the guidelines of the grant program are as follows:

  • Attend a designated high school for three consecutive years prior to graduation.
  • Graduate with a cumulative (over 4 years) grade point average of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale.
  • Graduate with a cumulative (over 4 years) 95% attendance record.
  • Maintain a record of good citizenship as defined in the citizenship guidelines, and avoid the unlawful use of drugs, including alchohol.  Good citizenship is defined as:  no more than two In-School Suspensions or Out-of-School Suspensions in four years.
  • Perform 50 hours of unpaid tutoring or mentoring.
  • Students must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form (FAFSA) prior to graduation.
  • Males 18 and over must register for Selective Service.
The A+ grant program is funded by the State of Missouri and is not the responsibility of the Northwest R-1 School District. Northwest High School must maintain it's A+ designation to be eligible for the program.
