Welcome to 6th, 7th and 8th Grade Computer Classes.  I am Lisa Jaschke one of the computer teachers here at Woodridge Middle School.  I am honored to guide and assist your child in the development of valuable computer and technology skills this year!

Sixth grade students will have computer classes every other day throughout the year.  Seventh and Eighth grade students will have computer classes every day for a semester.  It is very important that your child make up work when absent.  I am usually in the computer lab by 6:50 each morning if your child would like to come early and catch up on any missing assignments.

Our Northwest R-1 computer curriculum is designed to establish and provide students a solid technical foundation and the development of critical, safe computer skills. Students will be able to apply this knowledge and skills to their everyday lives.

What will be taught:

I. Introduction to the Computer

  • Computer parts (hardware and software)
  • Terminology and basic concepts
  • Ethical concepts and guidelines related to computer use

II.  Keyboarding Skills

  • Hand position/home row keys
  • Proper technique
  • Development of speed and accuracy

III.  Safe & Ethical use of the computer

  • Safe research using approved internet & websites
  • Ethics and guidelines, copyright rules, plagiarism

IV.  Introduction to Computer Applications

  • Word Processing - Microsoft Word
  • Presentations - Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Spreadsheets - Microsoft Excel
  • Newsletters - Microsoft Publisher

V.  Technology Tools

Students will learn the use of storage devices, scanners and digital cameras.

 

Emphasis will be placed on respect for teachers, classmates, equipment and the efficient productive use of computer lab time.  Students must follow directions, guidelines and computer classrrom rules in order to foster the best learning environment.
