My teaching philosophy: The higher the expectations, the higher the outcome. Learning can and should be fun. Everyone should be treated with respect. Compassion is a requirement for everyone. Everything we do has consequences. Good choices bring good consequences, bad choices have bad consequences. |
No pessimist ever discovered the secret of the stars, or sailed to an uncharted land, or opened a new doorway for the human spirit. Helen Keller He drew a circle to shut me out Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout But love and I had the wit to win, We drew a circle and took him in. From Edwin Markham "Outwitted" |

I spent almost twenty years in manufacturing management--production and inventory control. It was a world of numbers and spreadsheets. I went back to school and obtained my Master's Degree in Business Administration. I worked for such prestigeous firms as Chesebrough-Ponds (brand names like Q-Tip and Vaseline Intensive Care), Helene-Curtiss (Suave shampoo) and General Foods (Jell-o and Stove Top stuffing).
Then one of my twins was diagnosed with severe speech delays and moderate fine motor skill delays. There were these amazing therapists to help him and trained me to help him. I had what I can an "aha" moment. I wanted to make a difference too.
My son has made tremendous progress. He no longer requires speech or occupational therapy. However, he has since been diagnosed with a learning disability in written expression. My daughter was diagnosed with ADD. Both received special education services at their schools.
So I went back to school for classes for my teaching certification and my Master's Degree in Special Education. I've worked the last nine years in the classroom. I spent two years with Special School District as an ABA therapist and a paraprofessional, four years with the Special Services Cooperative of Jefferson County as a teacher in an autism classroom and three years with NWR-1 in life skills. I love what I do.
Professionally, I have been recognized by the NWR-1 Board of Education twice. First, for setting up a successful autism program along with a fellow teacher. Second, I was recognized for instilling compassion in students. During the 2011-2012 school year, I am mentoring a first year teacher in a life skills classroom.
Personally, I have three children. My daughter is 18-years-old and in her senior year in high school. She is an A+ tutor working in a special education classroom My identical twin sons are 14 and are freshmen in high school. I just got married in June 2009. My husband is a youth director at our church. We love to travel, read and write. Right now I am putting together my manuscript for my first book of poetry. I enjoy watching my children play sports, act in plays and perform in concerts. |
